Step 1

Start >> Run >> type "gpedit.msc" without quote. >> Press OK button.

Step 2

Now Click on  User Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Component > Windows Explorer.

Step 3

You will see "Removes the Folder Option menu item from the Tools menu" right side of window.

Set above option as "Not configured" Then check you are able to see  Folder Option  in Tools Menu in Windows Explorer.

How to Fix the Svchost.exe Application Error in Windows XP

Method 1

Leave the svchost.exe - Application Error dialog box open, and then follow these steps.

Step1: Check whether settings for the Automatic Updates service and for the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) are correct

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. In the details pane, locate and double-click Automatic Updates.
3. Click the Log On tab.
4. Make sure that the Local System account option is selected and that the Allow service to interact with desktop check box is cleared.
5. Make sure that this service has been enabled in the Hardware Profile list. If this service has not been enabled, click Enable to enable the service.
6. Click the General tab, and make sure that the Automatic option is selected in the Startup Type list. Under Service status, click Start to start the service if it is not already running.
7. Repeat steps 2 through 6 for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).

Step 2: Reregister Windows Update components

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL, and then press ENTER.
2. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message, click OK.
3. Type the following commands in the Open box, one after the other, and then press ENTER after each command:
   REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
   REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
   REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
   REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
   REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
   REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
   REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Step 3: Rename the Windows Update temporary folder

The temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted. In this case, you can rename the temporary folder of Windows Update. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
2. At the command prompt, type net stop Wuauserv, and then press ENTER.
3. Click Start, click Run, type %windir%, and then press ENTER.
4. In the folder that opens, locate and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SDold.
5. At the command prompt, type net start Wuauserv, and then press ENTER to start the Automatic Updates service.

Method 2

Follow these steps:

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Automatic Updates tab.
3. Click Turn off Automatic Updates, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Use the Windows Update Web site to install updates manually.
6. After you install the updates manually, turn on Automatic Updates.

How Can You Disable Control Panel In Win XP

Having control over the changes that users can make to their computing environment is an important part of network administration. If you do not implement some form of user change control, you may end up spending a lot of time fixing problems that could have been avoided.

The Control Panel is the main interface for making configuration changes. With this in mind, you should consider disabling access to the Control Panel all together so users are unable to make changes after you have configured computers.

To disable the Control Panel in Windows XP:

1. Click Start and click Run.

2. Type gpedit.msc and click OK.

3. Within the Group Policy Editor, expand the following: User Configuration | Administrative

Settings | Control Panel.

4. In the details pane, double click Prohibit access to the Control Panel.

5. Click Enabled and click OK.

With this setting enabled, users will be unable to start the Control Panel or run any Control Panel items.

Put your name in the Windows XP notification area

1. Access the Control Panel from the Start menu.

2. Double click Regional and Language Options.

3. Click the Customize button in the Standards And Formats panel of the Regional Options tab.

4. When the Customize Regional Options dialog box appears, select the Time tab.

5. In the AM Symbol and PM Symbol boxes, you can replace that text with your name or whatever word you want, as long as it is no longer than 12 characters.

6. To complete the operation, click OK twice — once to close the Customize Regional Options dialog box and once to close the Regional And Language Options dialog box.

You’ll instantly see you name appear in the notification area right next to the time.

Regedit is disabled by the administrator

You are unable to open registry editor ,

when you try to open regedit from run dialog box you received following error in windows xp

" Regedit is disabled by the administrator "

Click Start--> Run and type gpedit.msc and press ENTER

Go to the following location:

User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> System

Double-click Disable registry editing tools and set it to Not Configured

Exit the Group Policy Editor

Note : If the setting already sets Not Configured, set it to Enabled, and click Apply. Then revert it back to Not Configured.

Folder Option missing in windows XP

You are unable to view folder options

When you try to open folder option from windows explorer ( Tools --> Folder Options..) or In control panel .

1. Go to Run, type gpedit.msc then press enter.

2. Navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer.

3. At the right panel, look for “Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu”, right click on it then choose Properties.

4. Change the setting from Enabled to Not Configured or Disabled.

>> Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe

>> Navigate to the following branch:

In the right-pane, delete the value named DisableTaskMgr

Close Regedit.exe

Method 2:

>> Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.

>> Navigate to this branch:

User Configuration / Administrative Templates / System / Ctrl+Alt+Delete Options / Remove Task Manager

>> Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.

Set the policy to Not Configured.
